The New York Times published a story on January 7, 2024 about a woman whose cremated remains were buried at the Hartsdale Pet Cemetery in New York. She died without family and all her executor and lawyer knew was that her instructions upon her death were to be buried at the pet cemetery. But no one seemed to know why. The Stories Behind the Stones
For the first twenty-four years of my life, I lived less than two miles from the one of the oldest pet cemeteries in the United States. During those years, I never visited it, although I would occasionally hear stories about it. People would say that J. Edgar Hoover’s dogs were buried there as well as the dog “Petey” from the Our Gang movies.
